UDTA Punjab- An oxymoron

I’m back home from Chennai and I’m just sitting and flipping through the pictures in my phone gallery. Nice beach pictures, Pictures of the sunrise, Pictures of a girl who is (almost) carefree-Yeah that’s me, Pictures of my favorite foods from the South. It was so nice to have a family holiday after so long. But that’s not what left it’s imprint on me. It’s not just the beaches and the sea that I miss. I miss a whole lot of things.I sure would have loved to explain the beautiful locations and make this a travel post but NO. There’s something more important for us to know about the city than just it’s Beaches and temples and the amazing food. It was the people of the city.I just simply analyzed and observed. They’re remarkably simple. No fancy clothes, Hair dyes or any kind of experimenting.Like, all they care about is work and family.I was in awe of their simplicity and felt so hollow of myself. Not just because of the apparent difference of attire, But I felt I am sometimes just more consumed in myself. Anyways, Moving on, This post is to scrutinize different aspects. At first, I wasn’t really sure whether I should write about this issue, Constantly torn between “I should write it’s an important issue” and “Who cares we are the citizens of the world”. But then my gut instinct took over and here it is.

We all have this strong ardent bond with the place we are born in. And no matter where we are in the world, Hearing “Punjab” will get us goosebumps. You can switch places, languages, work, food,  But who we are on the inside – It’s forever.

I am a Punjabi myself so this post is not to hurt anyone’s sentiments/feelings/religion /knee/elbow/anything that could possibly be hurt by my post. I love being a Punjabi. Our culture is vibrant. We are great. (not promoting chauvinism just quoting most of us) That’s all okay ..We know it. So where are we missing? Missing what? What am I talking about? Don’t play fool folks. Some of us are struggling to get a nice job. Some of us have already gotten one in a company (out of Punjab). Some of us are struggling to get to a good college(Out of Punjab). Some of us are already in some good college (Out of Punjab). Why does Punjab have no IT Sector? Why are there no big industries here? Why even the agriculture sector isn’t growing as it should be? Is it us or is it the government? I think Both. I won’t comment much on the government part because let’s admit it- We seriously have no f-in idea whom to trust anymore.Just vote wisely.Sitting there and laughing at Sukhbir Badal’s troll videos(Even tho some of them are real funny) won’t make a difference. So just vote wisely. Now the quest is-Where are WE doing it wrong?

Our complacent attitude towards life is paving the way for more and more problems in our state’s future. Why are we satisfied with what we have? You and I will move out of the state and get a job maybe. And that’s okay what else am I supposed to do? Sit at home with a  “I LOVE PUNJAB ” signboard with no job instead? Of course not. Everyone loves their home and the state and the country but what forces them to move out is the condition of the state, The country.  And what cause that condition? Maybe somehow we did? Maybe our ignorance towards the issues in our state. Youth that is not motivated enough. Youth that only has Immigration on their mind. Youth that is repelling their own motherland.I suggest all those who are struggling, To hold on and try. We lose when we stop trying. Don’t run away because it’s difficult here. It’s not gonna be easier anywhere else. Some battles just can’t be skipped. There is no “SKIP IT FOR NOW” button for life. You have to do Life.

Let alone the jobs and the talk about Hard work. The mentality and the very basic characteristics that a Punjabi should have is missing these days.We have been chanting stories of our Gurus and Warriors- Their bravery, The respect they’ve always shown towards Women. The tribe that has been teaching the world the lessons of bravery and respect has today, their own state infested with eve-teasers. I am not asking you to patrol the streets and catch these perverts. But you should most certainly not be a goddamn bystander when a girl or a guy screams for help.

Our state being Rich is only a myth now. We can’t be rich unless we change our mindset. The reason we are losing it on all ends and the reason the Punjab we used to hail as our strength is our weakness now, Is not just because of the government but we are playing a huge role in it. Let’s be a welcoming hard-working state. Let’s care a little more about the Punjab we were born in. Let’s be a little more concerned about the Punjab it’s heading to. Let’s make it fly for real.

Be Brave

Mini way of life

Isn’t it crazy how life is always changing? How things are always fluctuating. Sometimes riding  with a bunch of people sometimes walking down a side path alone.Sometimes being fixed by love sometimes being torn apart . But amongst all the emotional trauma and all the shor , Where do you see yourself? Do u see yourself evolving through all of this? Growing through experiences.Loosing but learning.

They always kept saying to us that we should know what’s important in life. But never they said it’s more important to know what is not needed in life. That was an easy way out i guess. It’s  Just like how we’re always so quick at crossing out things off a list but when it comes to adding up something..error ..System stops responding! ?

I fall under the category of 20 something .If you ask people of my age what is the most valuable possession they own? There are fairly good chances of getting a materialistic thing as an answer.

“I have a bag , which is from Prada and oooh it was expensive”  – Some brand slave chick

“Well i have a diamond ring ” – some diamond loving chick

“I guess it would be my sports bike”  – random dude

Recently, I was very fascinated by the concept of a Minimalist. And i can’t figure out why ? Maybe I was in tremendous need of something so basic . Maybe i am also one of those people who value things too much ? Maybe it’s because as we grow up, the size of our Clutter grows too? It was so fetching ! And i hope it will be the same for you guys too. By this time most of you must be wondering who/what exactly is a minimalist?

Well, My personalized(and might be technically incorrect) definition is-Someone who is happy with the minimum . Someone who is aware of the superfluous in their life. Someone who knows what to value and what to let go off. In our cultures, We grew up watching people gather stuff throughout life. But may i ask what for? Can we just stop it ? Can’t we all just stop gathering stuff and instead look around for some experiences , Some moments , Some memories ? (In case you are wondering-I’m not asking you to leave college and become a nomad ) I also don’t mean to imply that a minimalist can’t  own stuff.Own whatever you love ! Own a Car.Own good clothes. But be conscious of what you do , own or love.Do it more wilfully. Make sure it is purposeful and not just to full .

Yes , Sweeties . When Less is more for you. You can call yourself in the safe zone.We all are so much occupied by the idea of earning more, Getting more, Being more that the notion of deliberately going for less is little offbeat for us.But believe me, it’s the way to go!

Extending the concept of minimalist a little more, We can apply it to the people around us too. When you’re decluttering, Why not subtract some people from the equation too ? Cut off that negative..add some positive and multiply with happiness and that’s as far as i go with maths so let’s just stop here.

Ending this post on a beautiful note with this picture .

Be brave enough to try a minimalist approach

Incredible Indians

Do you love your country? Tricky question huh? If you’re taking more than 10 secs to say a Yes, Then, believe me, it’s already an NO. It’s not even “I don’t know” Its a plain NO.

Just today I received a video on WhatsApp.And it wasn’t a pointless wastage-of-data video. In fact, it was one of those eye-opening videos. And it ended with these beautiful lines.

Money doesn’t make you a hero

Respect towards your country makes you a real hero

And this is what I’m going to discuss today. I witness every day how we are gradually losing the respect for our nation. I’m not against seeing oneself as a citizen of the world. Honestly, I like that thought cause it makes us all united  in a sense. Also, I’m not against any kind of fascination for the other nations. Now, what really bothers me is when I am encountered with people who are complaining constantly about their country. And what do they complain about? Almost everything from corruption(genuine) to why Arvind Kejriwal was wearing sandals while meeting the French president. Seriously what kind of priorities have we set for ourselves? Why are the pointless things always in the limelight? When the country is going through a turmoil why is something so irrelevant in the discussion? Ironically the problems we complain about are the problems we’ve created for ourselves. I know there’s an awful lot to fix about India. But most of us have been fanning the flames that will end up burning us all to ashes.

It’s crucial for all of us to be aware of our country’s most important issues at the moment. If I ask you to think about it, Issues like poverty, unemployment, education etc may come to your mind. Then you might say I’m not running the Govt. What can possibly I do to make changes? I don’t have any authority. But this is where you’re wrong my friend. In my most rational & genuine opinion, the most  important issues are actually related to us and our incomprehension of some problems. The only thing we need to do is make some very basic changes in the way we look at things, The way we react to News & what information we share.Because all these things eventually end up making a media hype that is, well, Just hype.

Finally, the most important attribute of an Indian I consider should be-Respect towards the country. Even if you don’t love your country, You should ALWAYS respect your motherland. The recent incident at JNU Delhi is a corroboration to this. I totally support JNU for the fact that they had the right to express their disagreement with something and I’m against those political self-proclaimed protectors of “Nationalism” parties which fuel the fire that should never burn. But the anti-national slogans raised (by whomsoever) during the event was unendurable for any of us.Every country has some issues to be fixed. We fight until they’re sorted. We fight together, Not with each other. For an incredible India, We need incredible Indians not a bunch of ingrates.

You must be the change you wish to see in the world.

– Mahatma Gandhi

I have always been moved by this one. It’s such an educational and profound quote. The changes we wish to see in our society has to begin with us. You believe India should be cleaner? Do your actions reflect the same? Have you contributed in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan? Or u just sit there magically wishing for all the garbage to disappear? You hate corrupt politicians but won’t vote for the new party because they’re inexperienced? Then i would say there are some serious issues with Us-The incredible Indians and not our country.

Failure- My Incentive

Word : Failure

Meaning – Lack of Success  Lack of practice

Hello to all the beautiful people out there. Hope you’re brightening the world with your light. 🙂 This time i’m here to talk about something that makes all of us flurried or a total nervous wreck in some cases (that was a reference to myself).

Failure. We all have experienced it at some point in life. Its a very common belief that failure means lack of success.  Some of us have outgrown this illusion while others are still in a struggle. It’s not lack of Success, It’s just lack of practice. Lack of some more work that should’ve put into. It’s just a phase that will pass with some more efforts, Period. Literally all of us have gone through Failures. If you haven’t, Then sorry my friend, You haven’t actually tried on anything yet. You haven’t dared to be original. You haven’t had the guts to be wrong. Of course it takes courage to do that.

I am a regular girl who have failed at many things. Far too many things to number. It used to sicken me to admit failures. There were bound to be times i was fret and all conscious about myself , Questioning my own abilities. Failures were always the hurdles in my way .We ought to be anxious about something we have given so much importance to . But i was doing it wrong , All wrong.

One night while i was looking for stars , A beautiful sky lantern caught my eye. I gave it a keen observation . How gracefully it rises into the sky above all and how alluringly beautiful it is to see it burn inside to give the light. Why can’t i be like that lantern ? Why can’t we all be the phoenix to emerge from fire ? That’s because we are always so afraid of failing that we refuse to change. We refuse taking risks.

So my message is clear don’t let your failures cloud your vision but having said all this, I don’t want you to overrate this “learning from failure” thing i.e Whatever you’re doing put your mind to it and there’s nothing you can’t achieve. Make success a self fulfilling prophecy as its your positive vibes about something that gives u the push to do it. Like they say- Fake it till you make it. Learning from mistakes is a different thing but presuming you will be wrong is entirely different. Don’t be your own doom.

Be brave enough to accept failures

He’s a Fighter

I saw him failing everyday . I saw him breaking into pieces . I saw him giving up on life. I saw him wanting to end his life. I’ve seen it all but no more. Now He wears an armour of hope .

My father fell victim to a wrong medication which wasn’t meant for his blood group. The medication reacted on his whole body and damaged his eyes too.Doctors said he got a second life.Sadly his new life got him only 60% sight (with the lens) in one eye .Initially, He even had trouble walking around the house on his own. But he came a long way from there.

He started Fighting his fears and his disabilities. For he knew he was not in this battle alone. He gave up on the idea of giving up and then he was no more vulnerable with a soldier by his side -My Mom. It was not easy for her to accept what fate  had brought for her. But she took over the command of the house. She didn’t let Dad feel helpless or weak. Not for a second. Not for a nanosecond. Not for the smallest entity of time that exists. He was a fighter now, All because of her.I can dedicate my whole life and all my afterlives but i will never seek a love so selfless like that.

Now he sits there ..struggling with the TV. His sight too weak to look at the screen. He is switching between channels and finally stops when his ears are embraced by the soothing gurbani. He stops cause it’s food for his soul. He stops Cause it solaced him. And he just sits there listening to it as it untangles his chains and takes him away from his pain. And he just sits there struggling with the TV and Life.Sometimes he  looks at me and i can see how badly he wants to see me changing and growing into a different person. He looks at our pictures and i see how he struggles with it. He looks at them and i feel his urge to be able to see them.Even after all this , I’m more than astonished to see his strong faith in God. How he’s always so grateful to the Almighty. After all what happened to him, I’d almost turned into an atheist (from an agnostic). But his faith changed everything . His faith made me a believer. His turning into a fighter made me believe in the existence of the divine power.Although Life certainly wasn’t the same for any of us. But as they say Everything happens for a reason. So yes there was a reason behind this one too.

The purpose of this post wasn’t to tug at your heartstrings. But to bring up an issue we’re all acquainted with- We often neglect the simple and little things in life, Which in fact are the real treasures of our life. Always be grateful for having what you’ve. And believe me , Having  a normal life is no less than a blessing itself. Wish for nothing more.
